Decentralization of MRTV
Since late 2014 Danicom has been working with the Deutsche Welle Akademie (DWA) on decentralization of MRTV, the national broadcaster of Myanmar.
MRTV has more than 3.000 staff members in the broadcast centre located in an isolated rural area 60 Km outside the official capital Nay Pui Taw.
New digital broadcasting technology and strong internet connections can help MRTV to move a bigger part of the production out in all provinces of the country.
The decentralization is not only a technical issue: The journalistic and technical employees also need to work more independently and that requires new skills.
Danicom, DWA and MRTV have developed a new training strategy, which can support the decentralization efforts. The training will focus on news-room management, programme development and classical journalistic skills in script writing, interviewing techniques and presentation techniques.
